Based on our sail plan, we’ve come up a few degrees in the last hour to better position ourselves for the last run into the Straits promising pressure to at least 15 miles of the coast. 10:00 PDT N35.35 W151.32 TWD 85 TWS 10 Heading 18 Pressure 1030. Another beautiful night. We motor sailed for an hour behind some squalls where it was light, and then got back to the normal 85 degree TWD. We’re getting closer to the high, which is good because a couple people started doubting it’s existence. We’ve got a race going with Rage and Westerly and are feeling good about our route. Our heading is generally 020, which we hope gets us to the best point in the high. Speed is mostly 8.5-9 knots. We also caught another fish today, which was perfect because we just finished the last one. JP had it on and cleaned in about 15 minutes. The bean bag chairs are out and the stereo is on. The nights have been pretty amazing. There is no moon, which makes the stars even brighter. A lot of shooting stars at night, and the Google sky map is getting a lot of use. Swift spirit

Hailing from Washington, the Evergreen State, Zvi, the Reichel/Pugh 55 representing the Seattle Yacht Club, made its transoceanic debut in the summer of 2021. While big boat racing was effectively grounded during the pandemic, skipper Alan Lubner took the opportunity to put his 2007 McConaghy-built acquisition through a refit and weightloss program in the winter of 2020-21 to enter Transpac 2021.

It was this R/P 55's first time to compete in this race and a successful Pacific crossing. Zvi was re-dedicated after the refit. Her original built name out of Newport, Rhode Island, was Rima, which is Arabic for “white antelope” or “gazelle.” Zvi means “gazelle” in old Hebrew. And so it was fitting that the re-dedication has brought the boat and her spirit back to her roots.

The team’s goals for Transpac were to “compete at the highest level and finish in Hawaii with the knowledge that we did everything we could to get there as quickly and safely as possible.”
